THE ADMIRALTY & COMMERCIAL COURTS GUIDE
7th Edition: 2006

Approved for Publication by
The Rt Hon Lord Phillips of Worth Matravers, Lord Chief Justice:

The Rt Hon Sir Anthony Clarke, Master of the Rolls
and Head of Civil Justice.

Introduction

It is now nearly 5 years since the last edition of the Admiralty & Commercial Court Guide. During that time there have been many amendments to the Civil Procedure Rules and the court has received numerous suggestions from practitioners for improvements to the Guide. This new edition reflects an enormous amount of work by my colleagues to revise the Guide to reflect those amendments and to take on board the suggestions. I am particularly grateful to Mr Justice Anthony Colman who has undertaken the role of editor in chief. As before, the Guide is not intended to provide a blueprint for litigation to which practitioners and the court must unthinkingly conform. The interests of efficiency and justice are paramount and the Guide must be treated as a flexible instrument so as to enable the Court to continue to provide a service to the international business community of the highest quality. Comments about the new edition are always welcome. A working group under the chairmanship of Mr Justice Richard Aikens is to be set up to consider ways of further improving the service which the Court provides. The next edition may thus not be so long in gestation.
