Index of Cases Referred to

This site contains the full text of those decisions of the House of Lords and the Privy Council which are available on the Internet together with tables of the cases cited or otherwise referred to in such decisions. Although it is believed that the text of the cases is identical to the versions on the separate House of Lords and Privy Council sites, no guarantee is given that the links are comprehensive or accurate -- most computer programs contain bugs of some sort and the ones that produce this site are no exception. Some things which would be obvious links to a human will be missed by the computer programs but on the other hand a computer program can insert far more links than any human could.

The previous version of this site got somewhat out of date: this was in part due to the amount of manual work that was involved. The programs have now been revised so as nearly to eliminate the manual work. This makes preparing the material much quicker but one result is that the table of cases referred to, although an improvement on the previous version, does not set out the full reference to the case (although this will usually be found in the text). A new table lists members of the Privy Council and the cases in which they have delivered a Judgment.

The paragraphs of the Judgments are numbered. Although the Judgments of many Courts, and in particular the Court of Appeal, now have numbered paragraphs, those of the House of Lords and Privy Council do not. These numbers have been added automatically by my programs. As a result they may differ from the paragraph numbers used in other electronic reports (including those included in YAWS). Clicking on a link at the top of each Judgment will produce a framed version of the case which will include a table of the paragraph numbers used in it; clicking on such a number will take you to the relevant paragraph. (There is also a table of cases cited by their Lordships in that particular case.)

Please note that the text and any graphics are all subject to Parliamentary, and in some cases Crown, Copyright.
